When it comes to snack items, you will never find a shortage in my house. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something salty and other times I'm in the mood for something sweet. Either way, I like to keep an eclectic collection of snacks on hand.
Even with snacking it's important to try and pick items that don’t contain artificial flavors or preservatives. That is why I was so excited when BzzAgent asked me to join the Smartfood Selects Campaign.
Smartfood Selects is a new line of all natural snacks that debuted earlier this year. Smartfood wanted to “spice things up” when it came to their traditional popcorn products, so they concocted the Selects line which consists of a unique collection of seasoned popped corn and chips.
All Smartfood Selects products:
- Are Free of Artificial Colors, Flavors, and Preservatives
- Contain 0 Grams of Trans Fat
- Are 100% Kosher
- Are free of MSG
One 0.8 ounce bag of Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips (good size for portion control)
The Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips were delicious and my favorite of all three varieties that were sent to me! They had just the right combination of herb and cheese flavor and weren't too salty. The feta seasoning was a highlight when it came to taste. After trying these, I am quite convinced that I have a slight addiction to them. They are now on my list of favorite salty snacks!
One 0.8 ounce bag of Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips (good size for portion control)
I was worried about trying the Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips, because although I love tomato, garlic, and basil, I have never really liked this combination in a salty snack. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this variety of Smartfood Selects. The flavor wasn’t overpowering when it came to taste, which is something that I have found to be an issue in other tomato flavored snack products. I think this had a great combination of zest, and although I preferred the Feta Herb Popped Chips over these, they were still a tasty snack that I’d try again in the future.
The Cinnamon Brown Sugar Popcorn had to be the most unusual out of the three varieties that I tried. With the exception of caramel, I have always associated popcorn with being a salty snack, so I originally didn’t know what to expect. It turns out that this particular flavor is sweet with a subtle hint of saltiness. While I enjoyed the taste of cinnamon and brown sugar together, this was probably my least favorite. To me it tasted like someone added these delicious sweet seasonings to traditional salted butter popcorn. When I snack, I’m in the mood for either something sweet or salty, but not usually both at the same time. This product would be good for someone who enjoys a snack that incorporates both the salty and sweet side together.
I almost forgot to mention the nifty packaging. The larger bags contain a resealable feature, which keeps your snacks nice and fresh.
I also like how the calorie, saturated fat, sodium, and sugar content is labeled on the front of each bag (even the smaller ones). These are some of the most typical nutrition facts that most folks tend to inspect before they purchase a product, so having this information placed conveniently on the front of each bag is really helpful.
All in all, I enjoyed trying out the Smartfood Selects brand. The Feta Hummus Popped Chips were definitely my favorite and I can’t wait to try them again. I also have my eye on the Sour Cream & Onion Puffed Corn, which I haven’t tried, but would love to.
