Children's Book Review: Only God Can Make a Kitten by Rhonda Gowler Greene

Only God Can Make a Kitten

One would immediately think that this book revolves around a kitten, but it actually encompasses so much more. Only God Can Make a Kitten is a sweet story about a young boy with quite an inquisitive nature. As he views the world and wonders around him, he begins to question the little details. His mother right beside him is there to add affirmation that it is God who’s responsible for it all.

My son was immediately delighted with the soft pastel illustrations. There were so many beautiful details and colors, which makes this book perfect for even the youngest of children. The story is adorably written, with the conversation between mother and son done in heartfelt lyrical prose.

Mama, look!
A tiny sprout!
Who made this sprig
of spring pop out?

He who knows
our every need.
Only God
can make a seed.

A former elementary teacher, Rhonda Gowler Greene is no stranger to writing children’s books. In fact she has written twenty of them, and has received many honors and awards in doing so. This was the first book that I’ve ever read by her. I was very pleased with her writing and would definitely love to give her other books a read.

Only God Can Make a Kitten combines both faith and education. It does a wonderful job at teaching a very important lesson to young children about the many blessings that God has created all around us. The mood surrounding the book is very uplifting throughout and even finishes off with a very heartwarming ending. This is definitely a story that I will enjoy reading to my son for years to come.

God saw all that he has made, and it was very good.
Genesis 1:31
