Listening to God's Word Come to Life: The Word of Promise New Testament Audio Bible #BookReview

There are many audio versions of the Bible out there, but I've yet to experience one like The Word of Promise: New Testament audio book. I am more of a reader than listener when it comes to books, but when I initially learned about this particular audio set, it really intrigued me. I knew it was something worth giving a try (or in this case, "a listen")

ABOUT THE WORD OF PROMISE: NEW TESTAMENT AUDIO BOOK:
This multi-voiced, scripted dramatization of the New King James Version (NKJV) features a star-studded cast of actors, an original music score, and incredible feature film quality sound effects. This world-class production creates a dramatic audio theater experience that makes you feel like you’re really there with Jesus and His disciples. Listen in your car, on your MP3 player, or with your family or small group to gain a new perspective of the Bible.
  • The Word of Promise® New Testament Audio Bible is a 20-CD set and includes a bonus “Behind-the-Scenes” DVD.
  • Cast Includes:
  • Jim Caviezel (The Passion of The Christ, Déjà vu) - Jesus
  • Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss (Mr. Holland's Opus, The Goodbye Girl) - Quotes from Moses
  • Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny, What Women Want) - Mary Magdalene
  • Golden Globe winner Stacy Keach (Prison Break, Hemingway) - Paul
  • Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Louis Gossett, Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman, Roots) - John
  • Kimberly Williams-Paisley (According to Jim, Father of the Bride) - Mary, Mother of Jesus
  • And many others

The Word of Promise: New Testament actually offers a new way to study the word of God, not by reading, but by listening. Jim Caviezel, who did a wonderful job at portraying Jesus in The Passion of Christ, is also amazing with the vocals in this audio book. The sound quality is top-notch. In addition to the actors portraying the characters and reciting the text of the Bible, you will also hear dramatic sound effects and background audio, which enhances the whole Bible studying experience even more. This is one of my favorite aspects of The Word of Promise: New Testament. Some audio Bibles only offer a simple reading of the text. Not that it's a bad thing, but with this particular audio book you actually feel like you are in the middle of each New Testament story. The background audio and various tones of each actor's voice in certain situations really helps move the reader, bringing each story to life. It's almost like watching a movie without the visuals.

This CD set is perfect for someone who doesn't always have the chance to sit for long periods of time to read the Bible. These can be taken with you wherever you go. After listening to the CD's, myself, I personally gifted them to my husband so that he can put them in his car. He now listens to them on his way to and from work. If I had to change one thing about the set, it would be the packaging. Most of the CD's are stacked on top of each other, so it can be a little tedious getting the next disk out, since you have to sometimes remove others to get to a particular one. Honestly, this is a small snafu in comparison with how wonderful The Word of Promise: New Testament really is. I was actually shocked that this set only costs $25, given its superb quality.

If you've been looking for a new way to study the Bible, then I highly recommend picking up The Word of Promise: New Testament. It presents a unique and fresh perspective of the New Testament, offering a Bible study experience like no other.
