Many children are very familiar with who Santa Claus is and if they're still to young to know, the day will come when they'll be introduced to him one way or another...through Christmas songs, cartoons, or even decorations. When it comes to my son, I've been thinking of a way to incorporate Santa Claus into the mix without taking away from the true meaning of Christmas. That is one of the things that I really like about My Christmas Stocking, since it tells the child-friendly story of St. Nicolas (A.K.A Santa Claus) and at the same time mentions God's gift of his son's birth.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
What happens on Christmas Eve while children sleep? "Their stockings are filled up with candy and toys, and happy surprises for good girls and boys." A kindhearted man hid a gift in a stocking, long ago. He did it to "remind everyone of the Gift that God sent." Christmas stockings help us remember God's love.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Crystal Bowman loves writing books for kids. Her books come in all shapes and sizes and many of them have become best sellers. Whether her stories are written in playful rhythm and rhyme, or short sentences for beginning readers, she tries to make them so enjoyable that kids will want to read them over and over again. "But the most important part," she says, "is to teach children that God loves them and cares about them very much."
My Christmas Stocking is a wonderful way to show children who St. Nicolas was and his good deeds, while still keeping true to the meaning of Christmas. It's also a great way for children to learn where the concept of the Christmas stocking came from.
I also have to add a comment about the physical aspect of this book. It is a sturdy board book, great for toddlers and young readers, and of all things – adorably shaped as a Christmas stocking. You can't get anymore festive and into the theme of the book than that!
My Christmas Stocking offers a short and simple story with a truly meaningful message of St. Nick's kindness and the blessings of God. This book is another gem for any child's library of holiday reads.
