7 Days of Awesome: A Creation Tale by Shawn Byous {Book Review}

Pin It

We own a lot of Bible storybooks that begin with the Book of Genesis, telling the story of how God created everything. What we previously didn't have is a book that solely touches up on the story of creation–that is until now. We've recently had the opportunity to read the new 7 Days of Awesome by Shawn Byous.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Full of delightful rhymes and charming illustrations, 7 Days of Awesome by Shawn Byous and Colin Jack portrays the seven days of creation with a fun, humorous style children will love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Shawn Byous has been developing ideas and drawing for as long as he can remember. Since the 1990s he has been creating thousands of t-shirt designs for major retailers. He also creates fine art for galleries in Southern California and has written and illustrated several children's books. He currently lives in Southern California with his wonderful wife and 3 awesome kids.

7 Days of Awesome is very reminiscent of a Dr. Suess story. We own a lot of Dr. Suess books, which are favorites in our home. The rhyming text is always a lot of fun to read, and the educational benefits are even better. Evidence shows that repetition of words offering similar phonetic sounds really does help little learners with memorization and learning new vocabulary.

Not only is this book written in fun rhyming prose. But the main character in the story reminds me a lot of The Cat in the Hat (only in a human version). He takes the children in the book on an adventure to learn more about the story of creation, teaching them what God did on each of those seven days, approaching everything in an often amusing way!

God Filled up the Seas
and He filled up the Sky
With fish that could swim
and birds tha could fly!

And fish that could FLY!
And birds that could SWIM!
But don't ask ME why...
you'll have to ask HIM!

Children will not only find this book fun to read (we read it several times a day in our home), but the humorous cartoon illustrations by Colin Jack really add to the whole ambiance, entertaining little readers as they learn an actual Bible story. 7 Days of Awesome does a wonderful job at teaching children about the story of creation in a fun and exciting way. I would highly recommend picking this book up for the young readers in your life.
