The Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional #B&HKIDS

I've been discussing a lot of different Bibles and devotionals, lately. Today, I wanted to share a special devotional that we've been reading, called the Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional. This particular devotional is specifically made for kids and offers a selection of unique features that set it apart from other children's devotionals that you may have come across in the past.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Bring the Bible to life each week of the year! This unique 52-week devotional is packed with value and includes interactivity kids will love. A Bible story is at the center of each weekly devotion, and a two-to-four minute video is available by scanning a QR code. Plus, a free downloadable app lets kids experience a digital “pop-up” (using Augmented Reality) of each Bible story along with narration by Jenna Lucado Bishop. The Big Picture Interactive Bible Story Devotional is the perfect way to bring the Bible to life in a kid’s heart!

The Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional is part of the "The Gospel Project for Kids." The cover says, "Connecting Christ Throughout God’s Story," and this is exactly the whole idea behind the Project. Their goal is to demonstrate that the Bible isn't only a collection of stories, but a series of many different aspects that all connect to Jesus and our salvation. Even as children read devotions based on Old Testaments stories, they'll still learn how Jesus is tied into it all.

The Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional has beautiful color illustrations that bring each story to life. Speaking of bringing to life, this book also offers something that you may not find with other devotionals–an app. You see the books in The Big Picture Interactive series offer a way to bring children closer to the message of the week by connecting it with an interactive feature. The free downloadable B&H Kids AR app allows the reader to scan various QR codes throughout the book, which ultimately bring each Bible story to a whole new level with digital pop-ups and audio.

Perfectly laid out for each week of the year, The Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional begins with stories from the Old Testament and eventually moves on to the New Testament. Every devotion begins with a story form the Bible, followed by several additional sections to further add to your child's studies:

  • Hear It!: Using the app, children can listen to various audio relating to that week's devotion
  • Read It!: Offers scripture references to look up in the Bible
  • Watch It!: Using the app, kids can watch a short video pertaining to the week's devotion.
  • Christ Connection: Reminds readers how Jesus is connected to each Bible story
  • Live Big: Activity suggestions based on the week's reading
  • Big Picture Questions: Additional questions to discuss with family that dive further into each week's lesson
  • Dear God: A prayer that highlights what was just read

In the back of the book there is also a page called the "Parent Connection." This invites parents to further discuss and elaborate on what their children just read. This area is divided into four different sections, Remember, Read, Think, and Do.

Although I'm not a smart phone user, myself, I can totally appreciate the updated approach to learning God's Word. Of course nothing could replace the Bible and good old fashioned reading. At the same time, a little technology that offers a more enhanced learning experience is an added bonus that can be quite beneficial to children. Just using the book without this feature is pretty great. This is a wonderful devotional for children and could even be used as a family devotional (this is exactly what I intend to do with ours).

If you're looking for a children's or family devotional that not only offers stories and scripture reference, but tons of additional features to further enhance the whole Bible study experience, then I highly recommend picking up the Big Picture Interactive 52-Week Bible Story Devotional.

Thank you for sharing, Sue! Some children just gravitate towards books and then there are others who don't. Since literacy is so important (especially for children), I like your alternative approach to having her learn the Bible. I think you're on the right track. :-)

If you are interested in more book recommendations for her, you can find some under my "Book Reviews" tab. Here is another one she may like: http://www.oureverydayharvest.com/2016/04/bible-my-best-friend-devotional.html
