ESV Family Devotional Bible Review + GIVEAWAY

Reading the Bible is an important way to bring someone closer to God. Having a good devotional to pair with your Bible is also nice, since it allows readers to keep a more routine reading schedule where they can dig deeper into the Word of God. I personally enjoy devotionals for Bible study purposes, because they elaborate on what I just read by offering main points and even questions to ponder.

There are many different types of Bibles and devotionals catered towards different age groups. There are even Bibles out there that offer devotionals built right in. What's better is when you can find one that allows the whole family to get together for a group Bible study. One such Bible that does this is the new ESV Family Devotional Bible from Crossway.

ABOUT THE ESV FAMILY DEVOTIONAL BIBLE:
The ESV Family Devotional Bible is designed to help families read and apply God’s Word together. This full-color edition features the complete ESV text interspersed with engaging illustrations and gospel-centered devotions related to key Bible stories—guiding families through the entirety of God’s Word over the course of a year. Each devotion also includes discussion questions and suggestions for additional reading, helping families develop a habit of reading the Bible together and applying its truth to all of life.

The ESV Family Devotional Bible includes the following features:

  • Easy to read English Standard Version translation (ESV)
  • Table of contents to easily locate the page numbers of each book in the Bible.
  • An alphabetical listing of each book in the Bible
  • 130 keys stories/devotions from the Bible using simplified text that's easy for even young children to understand
  • 130 gorgeous full color illustrations to go along with the included stories/devotions
  • Questions for the entire family to help reflect on what was just read, while offering the chance for further conversation and application
  • Keys verses pertaining each story/devotional
  • A ribbon bookmark to help keep the last page that was read
  • An index of devotional readings
  • Eight full-color maps to help readers locate Biblical places and track the many travels of Jesus, Paul, and others

This is a really beautiful hardcover devotional Bible. The first thing that stuck out for me was the amazing illustrations. There are spectacular paintings to highlight each one of the 130 keys stories included. Just looking at each picture alone is almost enough to tell the story–they're almost lifelike at times. This added bonus is a wonderful way to entice and pull you into each devotional story, and especially nice for young children who may prefer a more visual experience.

Each story (devotional reading) is based on an important person or event in Biblical history. The text is simple, so even little ones can follow along. After each story there is a section that offers several questions to ponder and even a key scripture verse to further elaborate on what was just read. At the bottom of every story you'll also find a notation on where readers can find the next devotional reading.

The ESV text is written throughout, and offers an easy-to-read word for word translation. This helps reflect the original text of the Bible, staying faithful to God's word, but doing so in a way that readers of all ages can easily comprehend.

The ESV Family Devotional Bible is truly a beautiful Bible for the whole family to enjoy. It is completely adaptable no matter what age your children are. If your kids are still quite young, you may want to start out with a Bible study that solely involves the 130 stories included. Just the pictures alone are a great conversation starter. As they get older, you can begin to add more and more scripture directly from the Bible. No matter which way you prefer to start, this Bible is one that can grow with the family throughout time.

I am blessed to also be offering a wonderful giveaway opportunity to Our Everyday Harvest readers. One person will win a copy of the new ESV Family Devotional Bible.
