Introducing Pslams to Little Ones: Snuggle Time Psalms by Glenys Nellist {GIVEAWAY}

There is so much to learn and take in from reading the Bible. While you can find help and wisdom throughout many of its books. Two personal favorites for me are Proverbs and Psalms. These two always tend to stick out for me. Psalms in particular is one that I enjoy reading over and over, again. There's just so much truth and comfort in it. I often find myself referring back to certain passages during particular moments of my life.

When I first discovered children's author, Glenys Nellist, had written a book entitled Snuggle Time Psalms, I was overjoyed. Not only have I become such a fan of Nellist's work (her children's books are wonderful), but I had made it a goal to introduce my son to the Book of Psalms one day. Of course, since he is still quite young I was going to wait until he was a bit older. That was until we were blessed with a copy of Snuggle Time Psalms.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Snuggle Time Psalms, written by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by TBD, is a perfect bedtime collection of sixteen rhyming Psalms for young children, intended to help them engage with Scripture and draw closer to God as they drift off to sleep. Did you think the book of Psalms was only for adults Think again! Snuggle Time Psalms, written by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by Cee Biscoe, is the perfect way to introduce little ones to the poetry book of the Bible. This padded cover board book uses simple concepts, rhyming text and adorable art to help children engage with the Psalms. Beginning with “Bedtime Peace” and ending with “Wonderful Me!” this collection of fifteen bedtime poems enables young children to discover the One who holds them in his arms, leads them like a shepherd, created them just as they are, and cherishes them with a love that never ends ... snuggle and see!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Coordinator of Children's Ministry for the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. Zondervan children's book author of two popular series: Love Letters from God and Snuggle Time. Glenys is a writer with a passion for God, her family, and children's ministry.

Those who were reading my blog last year may remember the review I did on Snuggle Time Prayers. This was one of Glenys Nellist's other literary treasures. We still enjoy the book to this day and read it quite often. Snuggle Time Psalms is actually the perfect companion to Snuggle Time Prayers and is put together in a very similar fashion.

Snuggle Time Psalms has a soft padded cover and sturdy board book pages, which makes it perfect for even the youngest readers. The book includes a collection of kid-friendly poems all written with sweet rhyming text. Each poem is inspired by fifteen different passages in the Book of Psalms.

While there were plenty of them to choose from, it's evident that the author took great care in picking the perfect ones that would be fitting for young children. For example, there is a poem entitled "You Make Me Great," which goes on to highlight how God makes his children strong–even during times when they may be feeling scare and alone; he their strength.

Here's a small excerpt from that poem:

When I feel alone or scared,
You're there to hold my hand
And even when the water's deep,
It's you who helps me stand.

Each of the fifteen poems also begins with a corresponding scripture verse from the Book of Psalms. "You Make Me Great" is based on Psalm 18:

Your strong right hand keeps me going. You bend down to make me great. -Psalm 18:35

Illustrator, Cee Biscoe is also back with her precious illustrations that we personally loved in Snuggle Time Prayers. Seriously, I don't think animals could get any cuter than this. Between the heartwarming prose and the whimsical pictures, this book includes everything needed to make a person feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Growing up, there was one Psalm in particular that I'd always turned to when times were rough and I felt the need to suit up in the armor of God's word. This was and still is Psalm 91. I can't begin to tell you how much reassurance can come from reading this passage (unless of course you already know). I had wondered if Glenys would have added this one into Snuggle Time Psalms. One of the first things I did when we received the book was flip around to check.

Low and behold:

Thank you, Glenys! Including Psalm 91 is a big deal to me and I do love the "Mommy Bird" reference that I can share with my son.

The Psalms have always been an amazing source of peace and comfort for me. I'm happy that I'm able to show my son that reading Psalms could also do the same for him. At his young age, it's nice to be able to have the resources to better explain it in a way that's easier for him to grasp. That's just one of the reasons why having Snuggle Time Psalms is so great. If you are looking to introduce Psalms to the children in your life, then I definitely recommend Snuggle Time Psalms as a valuable tool to help you get started.

I was blessed to also offer a giveaway opportunity for Our Everyday Harvest readers. One winner will receive a copy of the new Snuggle Time Psalms! For your chance to win, be sure to follow the Rafflecopter prompts, below.

Those pictures in the books are very clear and colorful. I really like them. I like that Parent Connections at the end. It's nice to have the questions already there to ask; it saves you from having to think of your own.
