Cub Friendly Cooking: The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook + GIVEAWAY

It's only the beginning of the Autumn season, and I'm already loving it. For me, it's a nice precursor to all of the holiday fun that's ahead. One of the things that I always enjoy doing, especially during this time of the year, is baking. Plus, I have my little taste tester at home to help me enjoy those goodies. Pretty soon, I'll be inviting him to take part in all of the cooking fun. That's why having The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook is such a treat (pun intended).

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Holidays are more fun when you have special food and drink to share with friends and family. Join the Bear family as they cook up some very special recipes for the most wonderful and blessed times of the year using The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.

Lately, The Berenstain Bears have been a popular topic of discussion here on Our Everyday Harvest. We just can't get enough of that precious Bear family. In the hustle and bustle of this world, it's nice to sink back into one of their books and enjoy their stories with my little one. Honestly if Bear Country was a real place, I would be putting the house up for sale and packing our things up to move there.

The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook is nice, because it's a cookbook and storybook in one. Throughout the book you'll find all kinds of delicious holiday recipes that you and your children can make together. What's better, this is not just a cookbook full of Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes (although I would enjoy it just the same). It also includes recipes for holidays that occur throughout the entire year. From Valentines Day to Easter to Independence Day, you'll find yummy ideas to celebrate your children's favorite holidays.

The book is broken down by holiday with a handful of kid-friendly recipes for each one. Everything from side dishes, to appetizers, to desserts are included throughout. Each recipe also has a full color photograph next to it. I particularly like this feature since it gives me a nice visual of what the end result should look like. In the beginning of each section is a small one-page introduction that highlights a scripture verse from the Bible, a short story including the Bear family, as well as a small prayer.

Fall Festivities Prayer
Open hands and open hearts
And giving with good cheer,
Help those in need know just how much
They're cared for through the year.

To celebrate the change of season, might I recommend trying the cookbook's Hot Apple Cinnamon Cider recipe:

Living in New York, we're spoiled with some of the most delicious apple ciders, all made locally. This recipe is right up our alley and would even be a perfect soother during the dreaded cold and flu season.

The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook offers easy recipes that parents and children can both create together. It's a great bonding opportunity for families and everyone gets to enjoy the fruits (or in this case food) of their labor when they're finished.

Whether your children prefer the festivities that take place in autumn or summer, they're sure to enjoy this cookbook full of positive messages and delicious recipes. Right now, Our Everyday Harvest readers can enter for a chance to win a copy of The Berenstain Bears’ Holiday Cookbook. To enter, just follow the Rafflecopter prompts, below.

I was--and remain--a huuuge Berenstain Bears fan! I've still got most of my books, plus a few videos of the original 80s cartoon (which totally rocks!) This book would go well with my Disney, Peeps, & Yankee Candle cookbooks. :) I'm really not all that much of a cook most of the time, tbh, but I do enjoy baking and trying out various new recipes for the holidays.

Kelly (Our Everyday Harvest) said...

Thank you for entering! It's so neat that you have the books and videos from the 80's! That's when I enjoyed them, too.

It sounds like you have a great selection of cookbooks. I never heard of the Yankee Candle one. Now I'm intrigued! :-D

Sure! The Bears were a very significant part of my childhood. I recently subscribed to the "Deep In Bear Country" podcast, and it's amazing. Definitely miss my old treehouse playset, too.

Oh yeah, the Yankee one is great; it's got some creative recipes based on various fragrances. =]

I love any type of stuffing or cornbread dressing at Thanksgiving! I'm not sure if it's a traditional holiday side dish but I love squash casserole with Thanksgiving dinner as well!

I'm diabetic so I just can't have much sugar and turn to artificial sweetners. I like stevia but it does have a certain flavor to it. The flavor has to go with what Im putting in. I do like it in ice tea and some baking.

Kelly (Our Everyday Harvest) said...

I agree, Susan. It does have a certain flavor that takes getting accustomed to. I like it in my hot tea, but prefer regular sugar in my coffee. Stevia is so much better than artificial sweeteners, though. I also found that a little goes a long way.
