Children's Book Giveaway

Last spring we were introduced to a precious collection of children's cartoon characters from the Really Woolly series. Since then we've had the pleasure of enjoying several of their books, which also include heartwarming messages of the Good Shepard. Just recently, we added a new one to our library, the Really Woolly 5-Minute Bedtime Treasury.

The Really Woolly® brand from DaySpring® has been a top-selling brand for more than 15 years and includes cards, plush, gifts, books, and animated DVDs. Really Woolly products are best known for sharing encouragement to others through the relationship the Shepherd has with His sheep. Find your favorite Really Woolly® storybooks combined into one beautiful book that you and your little ones will love to use at bedtime. With a simple 5 minute format, the Really Woolly 5-Minute Bedtime Treasury will allow you to spend quality time with your children before they drift off to sleep and won't leave you exhausted when they beg for just one more story.

Bonnie Rickner Jensen is a bestselling author, who for the past 20 years has written everything from children's books to gift books to thousands of greeting cards. She's won a Retailer's Choice Award for her book, "I Love You Head to Toe", and also several Louie Awards for her work in the social expression industry. Her inspirations are her grandchildren, running, and sunshine. She writes from her picture book, toy-filled office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Really Woolly 5-Minuted Bedtime Treasury is a beautiful padded hardcover book, with 30 inspiring stories to encourage little ones and offer a heartwarming reminder of just how much God loves them. Every story is set up through chapters that contain several parts. Depending on each one, you have a happy combination of inspiring messages, scripture verses, poems, prayers to recite, and even questions to reflect on. As the title mentions, each chapter is compressed into a five minute or less read, which is perfect for bedtime.

In one story, called Have a Thankful Heart, we start off with a mention of Psalm 106:1:

Thank the Lord because he is good. His love continues forever.

A short introduction discusses the importance of thanking God for the many blessings he gives us each and every day. This is then followed up with a sweet poem about thanking God, as well as another scripture reference from Psalm 111:1:

I will thank the Lord with all my heart

The next few pages include an additional poem about being grateful, two prayers, a take away to remember, and several questions to ponder about the joys that are sent our way and how we can thank God for them.

Each story in this book is actually taken from previous children's ministry releases in the Really Woolly collection such as Bedtime Bible Promises, Good Night, God, Little Book of Bible Verses, and 12 Little Blessings. The illustrations are absolutely adorable with calming pastel colors that include the entire Really Woolly gang, as well as art to represent various tales from the Bible (Noah's Ark, Jonah, Jesus' birth, etc.). The ribbon bookmark is a nice touch, especially since this is a rather large book with quite a few stories–we can now keep our place from where we left off. I should also note that this would make an extra special gift for someone. There's a presentation page included at the beginning of the book. Another feature, which I love, is the two-page spread that allows me to write a special prayer for my son. On the the adjoining page, he can also write his own personal prayer.

When it comes to getting our little one to bed, there's no better way to wind down the night than with a special bedtime story. Of course, in our house, this sometimes means a "few" bedtime stories. It's especially nice to drift off to sleep with an extra special message of God's love for us. The Really Woolly 5-Minute Bedtime Treasury is nice, because it offers stories, poems, scripture, prayers, and a overall positive message to end the day with. All this is done in short and sweet chapters that are fun and easy to follow along to. There's nothing like sharing the word of God with my little one. This is the perfect book to keep by the nightstand, and one that is such a pleasure to read to him.

She draws much cuter lambs than I do. I wrote a book for little ones in our family where the main characters were lambs, but of course I'm not a published writer. The story isn't a real short one either. Maybe one day I'll get one of the little kid books published, but I'm not holding my breath. It's a tough market out there because there are so many God given talented artists and authors of little kids books out there now. I like the idea of this book because it is Christian in nature. I try to add a little something Christian to the books I write as well. They are made up stories, but I try to have at least something little in them that leads back to God. Mostly I just write a book as one of the Christmas presents to the children in the family. Wish I was a better artist though.

That's wonderful, Lauralee! I love how you give your stories to the children in your family. What a special gift! Don't give up on your talent. A lot of writers collaborate with other illustrators before releasing their books, so that is always something to consider if you're ever looking to go down that route. Sure it's a competitive market, but never underestimate yourself and what you can accomplish, especially through Christ. ;-)
