When God Made You by Matthew Paul Turner

As children grow, they begin to learn more about the differences in their personalities and unique character traits, especially when compared to others around them. My son and I have been recently blessed with a beautiful new picture book by author, Matthew Paul Turner, called When God Made You. I always love books that offer encouragement to children by reminding them that their individuality ties in with their own special purpose in life–one that our great Lord has provided to each of us for His own exceptional plan. When God Made You is a story that does just that, while also combining exquisite illustrations to bring everything to life.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
From early on, children are looking to discover their place in the world and longing to understand how their personalities, traits, and talents fit in. The assurance that they are deeply loved and a unique creation in our big universe is certain to help them spread their wings and fly.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Matthew Paul Turner is a blogger, speaker, and author of Hear No Evil, The Coffeehouse Gospel, the What You Didn’t Learn from Your Parents About… series, and several other popular books. Matthew, his wife, Jessica, and his son, Elias, live in Nashville, Tennessee.

The words throughout the story are moving as they teach children of all ages that they're a unique creation of God with special talents and characteristics. It reminds them that their lives were thought of way before they were ever created, from their nose to ten little toes, all for a divine reason. While offering an inspirational lesson to children, the story is also very magical in the way that it's put together, with a tale of a little girl who uses what the Lord called her for, to brighten up someone's day in the most amazing way.

The illustrations done by David Catrow are fascinating as they make each page of the book come to life. Towards the middle to end of the story, a fictional bird is drawn up by the little girl. My son was absolutely captivated by the drawings of this bird, which made for a great talking point when we were done reading.

Wondrous, vivid imagery that children will delight in and poetic rhyming prose, When God Made You encompasses both, all while offering a heartwarming message of hope and encouragement for children, letting them know that they shouldn't be afraid to step out and fulfill God's amazing purpose for them in their life.

Those are fascinating illustrations! The word arrangement is interesting. I don't think I've seen that kind of rhyming before.

I thought they were pretty neat, too. We had previously received another book that had artwork from the same illustrator and I immediately recognized his style when we received this one.
