An Encouraging Bible Study Experience for Women: The NKJV Woman's Study Bible (Revised Edition)

When building a personal relationship with God, it's so important to regularly keep in His word by reading the Bible. There are many traditional Bibles out there to choose from, but having a good study version can be extremely beneficial, because these often contain a wealth of extra information and tools to help readers really grasp and gain a better understanding of not only God's word, but Biblical history as a whole.

I've recently been blessed with a newly redesigned edition of The Woman's Study Bible, NKJV, and I have to say that this one has been taking my studies to a whole new level, since it's packed with some pretty amazing features.

Some of these features include:

  • A brand new packaging design, including full-color pages on the inside
  • Detailed introductions to each book of the Bible, which includes summary backgrounds and outlines
  • Over 100 in-text maps, charts, timelines, charts, and family trees to study
  • Various quotes from Christian women throughout history
  • Character profiles of over 100 biblical women
  • Thousands of scripture verse study notes
  • Over 300 articles included in the text that speak on relevant topics
  • Informative essays written by female experts in theology, biblical studies, archaeology, and philosophy
  • Full page maps
  • Concordance
  • An index and reference guide to all of the special features that are included

ABOUT THE WOMAN'S STUDY BIBLE, NKJV:
The Woman’s Study Bible poignantly reveals the Word of God to women, inviting them to receive God’s truth for balance, hope, and transformation. Special features designed to speak to a woman’s heart appear throughout the Bible text, revealing Scripture-based insights about how godly womanhood grows from a woman’s identity as a Christ-follower and a child of the Kingdom. Now with a beautiful full-color redesign, The Woman’s Study Bible reflects the contributions of over 80 women from a wide variety of ethnic, denominational, educational, and occupational backgrounds.

The NKJV Woman's Study Bible comes in three different exterior cover designs for those who have a certain preference. Each design–a traditional hardcover, one with a pink floral cloth over board cover  (this one is really pretty), and another with an imitation leather cover–come with the same fantastic features mentioned above. Since this is a Bible geared towards woman, you will find a feminine touch throughout. I personally received the one with the imitation leather cover, which is brown and burgundy and includes impressions of flowers on the top half of the cover.

One of the other things that I really appreciate about this Bible is the larger text size. I do a lot of my reading at night, sometimes under dimmed lighting, so the 11 point font is especially helpful for me.

Now that I've touched up on some of the physical design aspects of this Bible, I would love to also share some of my favorite study features:

I'm all about charts and lists, and there are plenty of informative ones included in this Bible. These charts expand way beyond the average tables of currency and measurements (although those are included, too). You'll actually find all kinds of information like the steps for Preparation in Leadership, which displays a mentoring pattern that began with Moses and Joshua. There's also a chart of the Seven Churches of Revelation. This can be a confusing topic of discussion for some, so I really appreciate how this chart breaks down information on how to better understand them. Another chart that really stuck out for me was the one on Flower and Plants in the Bible. This touches up on various flowers, vegetables, bitter herbs, and herbs mentioned throughout the Bible and how they were used during those times. For instance, did you know that melons were often used as an alternative to water or that hyssop was used in rituals, because it was a symbol of purification?

Since this is a Bible that was specifically created to speak to a woman's heart, I couldn't forget to mention some of the other features that really help highlight this. Of course, if you're a fan of those charts like I am (see above), then you'll enjoy reading those that discuss topics like Homemaking in the Bible and Women Using Their Gifts in The Early Church. As you read through the pages, you'll also find inspirational stories highlighting various women who lived in Biblical history and the role they played in their lifetime (some good, some bad), but many with a good morale to the story. Take, for instance, the profile of Miriam, Moses' sister. It initially discusses her gifts from a young age, as well as her leadership in helping to build the nation of Israel. It also tells of her disobedience to God later on in life, which ultimately leads to her downfall and lose of gifts. This particular story is a good reminder that we must never let sin rob us from the plans that God has for us.

Another favorite of mine, were the various in-text quotes all written by Christian women who've lived throughout history. Some of these quotes were practical in nature, while others offered a more spiritual tone:

The soul to be rescued, washed, redeemed, saved, sanctified, and glorified–He saw this glorious jewel and He gave Himself for it.
 –Catherine Booth

I can go on and on about all of the outstanding features that are included in The Woman's Study Bible, NKJV, but if I did, then this post would turn into a book. There is just that much offered in this Bible. In addition to presenting a unique and captivating study experience catered especially towards women, the overall redesign is beautiful and helps give this a fresh, updated feel that appeals to a woman's feminine side.

This Bible offers encouragement and inspiration to women, all while bringing them closer in their relationship with the Lord. If you're in search for a new Bible that will give you the most out of your study experience, then I highly recommend picking up the The Woman's Study Bible, NKJV. With Mother's Day right around the corner, it would also make a thoughtful and wonderful gift for the special lady in your life.

I have the older version and really enjoy that one, so I'm sure I would enjoy this one too. It looks really pretty and I like all of the resources available throughout the Bible. I would like that homemaking and gifts discussion also.

Thank you for sharing, Brenda. I haven't had the opportunity to see the original version in person. It stills looks very beautiful from what I saw online.
