Confidence in the Lord Through the Many Seasons in Our Lives

Wow...what a powerful verse from Jeremiah 17 that uses the life of a tree as a testimony to trusting in God!

Trees are pretty resilient, especially in areas with changing climates or long stretches of excessive heat or cold. Take here in Upstate NY, for example, you have your evergreens that stay green throughout the long winter season, but others like the maple or oak tree begin to shed their leaves around this time of the year. While I love the autumn season and the changing colors of the leaves are quite beautiful, it is kind of bittersweet, because we know that the leaves will soon be dying off and the tree will be bare. Of course there is a silver lining–something magnificent happens when the warmer weather comes back in the springtime. The buds start appearing and brand new leaves begin to grow. If a tree could talk, what do you think it would say? Do you think it would be afraid, or instead comforted with the fact that it can trust in God to supply it's need in due time?

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be
like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear
when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of
drought and never fails to bear fruit.
-Jeremiah 17:7-8

This verse in Jeremiah uses a tree as an example, comparing it with how believers should lean towards the Lord to supply their needs. Right before these two verses and even afterwards, it speaks about seeking the treasures in heaven, rather than worldly treasures. The whole chapter (Jeremiah 17) in its entirety conveys a really important message, but I really like these two verses and really wanted to share them. It's sometimes easy to forget that we need to put our full trust in the Lord when times get rough, or if we're going through a certain season in our life. Sometimes we think worldly solutions could help us, instead, but we all know how that sometimes goes. The Lord knows our heart and wants to bless us, but we first have to be confident and trust in Him, in turn this will help us produce good spiritual "fruit."

I learned 6 yrs ago when I had cancer to put my total trust in God. He gave me peace as soon as the Dr told me I had Hodgkins lymphoma. Plus my sister had it 7 yrs before I did so I knew what to expect. God was and is with me through every journey I go through. My sister & I are both cancer free. We give God all the praise & glory. I like Jeremiah. Thank you for sharing this scripture ☺
