Our Latest Children's Holiday Entertainment Picks, plus a DVD Prize Pack Giveaway

It's no secret that we love reading books about the holidays, but we also really enjoy watching shows and movies to celebrate the season. Besides the classics, we try to add in a few new ones to our collection. This year, we have three holiday picks, Caillou's Holiday Movie, Doozers: Giant Gingerbread House, and Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: Twas the Night Before Liftoff.

Who doesn't love Caillou? A sweet little boy who's always on a mission to discover and learn new things. We really enjoy watching Caillou's Holiday Movie, since it includes themes that have to with any and everything pertaining to Christmas. I actually love that it also teaches children.

We watched Caillou as he learned all about the many traditions of the Christmas holiday like going on a horse drawn sleigh ride to pick out a Christmas tree, crafting a special star for the top of his new tree, and even writing out holiday cards to his friends. His family then introduces him to an Advent calendar, so he can keep track of how many days are left until Christmas. Each night he counts the days leftover (includes a little math fun for the children) and then his mother or father tell him a story about a special Christmas tradition from another country. We learned about Christmas in Germany and how the tradition of bringing home an evergreen tree got started, as well as the England tradition of sending Christmas cards to friends and loved ones. In Mexico, they have a parade to reenact Mary and Joseph riding to Bethlehem, and Caillou even learns how to say Merry Christmas in Spanish (Feliz Navidad).

Even traditions from Hanukkah are included, which was a nice surprise. I especially appreciate that emphasis was put on the thought of giving, especially during the holiday season. One instance is when Caillou decides to donate some of his toys to children in need. This DVD also includes an interview with Caillou and two extra holiday songs, 8 Days to Go and Caillou's Christmas Song

There's something special about seeing my little one enjoy something that I too enjoyed when I was a child. Maybe they didn't actually have a Doozer cartoon back in the day, but these little guys and gals were included in one of the beloved puppet shows that I actually watched as a little girl, Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock. I love how there is now a spin off with these adorable little creatures.

Doozers: Giant Gingerbread House features eight episodes of holiday fun. The Doozers are full of energy and gusto. They like working hard and helping others. Each episode offers an example of how they try to spread seasonal joy to those around them. From helping to create an ice skating dress for Daisy Wheel, to coming together to brainstorm the construction of a gingerbread house, the Doozers are happy to follow through. What's really nice about this show is that it demonstrates why it's important to have a helpful and caring heart. There's also a lot emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related projects, so kids can also learn as they watch this enjoyable cartoon.

We were first introduced to Thomas Edison's Secret Lab just a few of weeks ago when we caught a few episodes on one of our streaming Roku channels. It was love at first watch, especially since the show focuses on real science lessons for the kiddos. So basically, they get to have fun watching a cartoon while also picking up a few educational tid-bits along the way. I was pleasantly surprised with what this program has to offer. It almost reminds me of a show that you'd actually see on the PBS Kids channel. We love it!

The show revolves around a twelve year old science prodigy named Angie who finds a top secret lab that was previously built by Thomas Edison. This is where he had not only created a virtual version of himself, but a robot named Von Bolt. Each episode stars Edison as he mentors Angie and her friends , JD, Kent and Nicky, while they go on quests to explore and discover all the mysteries that science has to offer.

The Twas the Night Before Liftoff DVD offers six full holiday episodes, including the title episode. Each one moves into the next to create a complete story. The gang receives a visit at the lab by a mystery guest who claims to be an old friend of Edison's. Who is this person that happens to resemble a very familiar Christmas character? He desperately needs help with a secret project, so they all try to pitch in. On their journey they'll travel through a wormhole, visit the North Pole, and even discover a few neat facts along the way, inlcuding how one of Edison's employees had actually invented the first set of Christmas lights for his tree back in 1880. Each episode also ends with a fun music video highlighting moments and educational facts from that episode.

These three DVDs are just a taste of what NCircle Entertainment has to offer for the holiday season. They have plenty more Christmas movies and shows for children of all ages. For more information, be sure to connect with them on Facebook and Twitter.
