The Stable Cat's Christmas by Christina Vrba {Picture Book Review & GIVEAWAY}

Pin It

Christmas is less than a month away, and we are so excited for the holiday and to celebrate the reason for the season, Jesus. We recently read The Stable Cat's Christmas by Christina Vrba, a precious children's book that takes place on the night of Jesus' birth, only this one tells the story of a small cat who just finds out that a king has been born in the stable where she lives. All of the other animals have a special gift for the king, which makes the cat feel sad. You see, she has quite the dilemma–she doesn't know what gift she could possibly give Him.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
One night in Bethlehem, a small, dust-colored cat returns to her stable to find that a Baby has been born in the night. As all the animals tell the cat about the gifts they gave the Christ Child, the cat sadly concludes that she is too little and powerless to give a gift to the King. But when...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Christina S. Vrba lives and works in northwestern Connecticut. When not spinning tales, Christina loves poking about in comic book shops and the children’s sections of bookstores, spending time with her husband and son, and caring for her personal menagerie of creatures, including dogs, cats, gerbils, and two much-loved goldfish.

The Stable Cat's Christmas is a hardcover picture book with beautiful artwork done by Gail Yerrill. The drawings show all sorts of stable animals that are present during Jesus' birth. We loved the sweet expressions on the cat's face as she meets with a dog, cow, and donkey to hear more about the gifts that they will be presenting to the king. The gifts that they offer seem impressive, but what could a little cat like her offer a king? That is the way she sees it, until an opportunity arises where she's quick to help, not realizing that she is actually using her gift. The ending was our favorite part. Not only was it heartwarming, but there was a really cute twist that we honestly didn't see coming. I won't give it away here, because it's definitely worth the surprise.

It's difficult not to forget this sweet story, because it holds a very meaningful message, that God gives each of us gifts, we need only to look deep into ourselves to find them. The moral to the story is especially important for young children to hear, because it emphasizes that we can never be too small to have these gifts, or to even use them to bless someone else. What a wonderful message to share, not just during the holiday season, but all year round.

I'm happy to be also offering a giveaway for this beautiful picture book that is truly a must-have for any child's Christmas book collection. One winner will received The Stable Cat's Christmas by Christina Vrba. To enter the giveaway, please follow the giveaway prompts, below.

This looks like a very sweet book. I'm not a cat person but my toddler loves kitties and he loves books so this would be a nice addition to his library.

I love that orange Cat's gaze upon baby Jesus on this book cover. Oh just a little FYI, only 20% of orange cats are females. Being an orange colored cat is mostly a male trait in the cat world, of course this has nothing to do with the book. I'm sure little ones will enjoy all the pictures with the sweet story of JESUS birth.

Just wanted to let you know, it isn't letting me like the Worthy Publishing page. It keeps telling me I am blocked from performing that action. Not sure why. Don't think I'm going to try again, don't need to get blocked on Facebook or something.

Okay, I was able to go to their page on Facebook and like them, but couldn't do it from the widget.
Weird.

That's a neat fact about the orange tabby (it kind of reminds me about how rare it is to find a male calico cat ). Thanks for the info! We used to have an orange tabby, and yes he was male. ;-) The gaze of the cat on the front cover is really precious!

I'd forgotten about the rareness of male calico cats. Should have remembered since I had a female calico cat once.

Hmmmm, let me check it out and see what I find. I definitely don't want you to get blocked, either.

It's quite interesting, isn't it? :-)

I just tried to test it out, myself, and I am having the same problem. I am not sure if it is a temporary glitch, or if there is some sort of Facebook app blocking likes from a giveaway tool. I'm glad that you were still able to do so through the regular page. So sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for letting me know!
