NIV Dad's Devotional Bible #BookReview with Notes by Robert Wolgemuth

I was previously on the hunt for a devotional Bible that I could give to my husband, something that's not only catered towards men, but one that is specifically meant for fathers. He already had a regular Bible, and even one meant for military that I'd given to him while he was still on active duty. Both are great, but I still wanted to find him something that would match his current lifestyle, so when I came across the NIV Dad's Devotional Bible, I was anxious to take a look and see if this would be the perfect one that I had been searching for.

A trusted source of wisdom to help men learn how to be the type of fathers God wants them to be, this Bible provides a full year of weekday devotions along with other helpful study features.

Filled with challenging and helpful information, the NIV Dad's Devotional Bible helps dads become fathers who honor God, live faithfully, and love their families-men whose lives will build priceless family legacies for generations to come.

About the Author:
Robert Wolgemuth graduated from Taylor University (Biblical Literature) and received an honorary doctorate (LhD) from the same university in 2005. He is the author or coauthor of over twenty books, including Men of the Bible, The Most Important Year in a Man’s/Woman’s Life, and the notes to the Dad’s Bible. See website:

The NIV Dad's Devotional Bible is so much more than a traditional Bible, since it also includes 260 devotions, one for every weekday, specifically geared towards fathers. The devotions include topics such as trust, discipline, finding joy, seizing the moment, etc. Each devotion is also conveniently incorporated into various areas of the Bible with their pertaining scripture passages. It's nice to have everything conveniently added into one book, so there's no need to flip through several different items during a Bible study session.

This Bible has a sturdy hard cover, along with a dust jacket. I personally like that the cover title and photo are not only printed on the dust jacket, but also on the actual hard cover portion, since not everyone is a fan of dust jackets. The type is printed on lightweight offset paper at a typical size found in other larger Bibles, so it is not too small and not too big.

In the back, there are several other extremely useful sections:

  • A Table of Weights and Measures

  • The Bible for Dads section, which includes introductions of each book in both the Old and New Testament. This is a very handy tool that provides a simplified summary of each Bible book. It is a nice feature to have, although, if it were up to me, I would probably put this in the beginning of the Bible, rather than the back, since they are introductions.

    • Questions Kids Ask is my absolute favorite section. It is broken down into various faith-based topics, listing questions that children may typically ask their parents. Each area shows the topic, an example question, along with a possible answer based on various scripture in the Bible, which is also noted with passage recommendations.

      • The Fruit of the Spirit Topical Index allows you to cater your Bible study around the nine fruits of the Spirit. It includes listings of each fruit (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control), along with pertaining scripture in biblical order, various relating topics, and page numbers for reference.

The NIV Dad's Devotional Bible makes a wonderful gift for all fathers! I really appreciate that this is a Bible, devotional, and reference guide all in one. It serves as an excellent tool to help men lead a Godly path for themselves and their families.
