Natural & Safe Art Supplies for Little Ones: Wee Can Too Veggie Sidewalk Chalk Review

When I was younger I really had a love for art, whether drawing or using simple coloring books, I always had so much fun. Now that I'm a mother, I wanted to pass on the artistic fun to my son, but have been increasingly concerned with the ingredients that are being found in some of today's common art supplies.

In 2003, there was a recall on sidewalk chalk due to the fact that it contained high levels of lead. Earlier this month, a report was released showing that asbestos fibers were discovered in several brands of crayons and other toys sold in the United States. Hearing awful news like this, I know that I can never be too careful when it come to what my son plays with.

Many large companies put their products through stringent testing, but even so you never know what nasty ingredients could be lurking in your children's art supplies. I like to err on the side of caution, especially since my toddler is still in that stage where he'll sneak a thing here or there in his mouth. This means I'm always on guard when it comes to what he handles. Upon doing an internet search for non-toxic crayons, I came across a company called Wee Can Too. I was immediately intrigued by the products they had to offer. Each and every one of their arts and crafts items are made with fruit and vegetable powders, along with other plant-based ingredients!

 About Wee Can Too:

Wee Can Too™ was founded with a mission to bring art supplies to babies and toddlers by offering the highest quality products made from fruit and vegetable powders, plus plant-based ingredients. Our products are all natural, and made from the safest ingredients without chemicals, preservatives, color additives, and are made from food based ingredients. Our colors come from nature!

Wee Can Too was founded in 2007 with our first batch of Veggie Finger Paint and today we offer an entire line of all natural art supplies, made for babies, toddlers, and young children. Wee Can Too products are unique and we share a passion in introducing the world to these wonderful products that are practically safe enough to eat

I decided to go ahead and purchase their Natural and Organic Veggie Crayons, which are made from veggie-based ingredients, including food grade soy wax. My son really enjoys the crayons and I love them because they are free of petroleum and other toxic additives. I thought it was especially neat that they come in little squares, resembling blocks that can also be stacked.

Since we enjoyed the crayons so much, the company decided to send us a bag of their Veggie Sidewalk Chalk to try out. The Wee Can Too sidewalk chalk comes in five separate organic colors, green, yellow, orange, pink, and purple. Each piece is thick, which made it perfect for my son to hold. Plus they're large enough where he won't be tempted to put them in his mouth. Although, if that were to happen, I now have the peace of mind that these products are completely safe (free of lead and other nasty ingredients).

We decided to put the chalk to use on both cement and asphalt. It actually took to both areas without any issues. In fact, I was extremely impressed by how vibrant and beautiful the colors were when we started drawing. One of the other concerns I had was how well the chalk would wash off and if there might be a possibility of staining. After we were done, I sprayed the hose using a light setting. Our drawings washed off almost immediately. There wasn't even a trace of chalk whatsoever. I even got a little bit of chalk on my pants, but it washed right off.

If you are looking to go the natural (and safe) route when it comes to children's art supplies, then I highly recommend giving Wee Can Too products a try. All of their items are made in the United States and only contain organic ingredients. They're also vegan and free of wheat, sugar, dairy, and preservatives.

Their products can be found at many retailers worldwide. They can also be purchased right on the Wee Can Too website or even on Amazon. We personally look forward to trying their Natural Veggie Dough and Naturally Safe Finger Paint, next. They even have a Natural Egg Dying Kit, which would be perfect for Easter time.

I can't tell you how incredibly happy I am to have come across Wee Can Too! I can now feel at ease while my son engages in arts and crafts time, knowing that these products are completely safe for him to use.
