Bible Study for the Busy Mom: Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood by Melissa Kruger #BookReview

Being a busy mom, it can often be difficult to find enough time for Bible study sessions. There are always things do and places to go. You also look forward to spending precious time with your little ones. At the same time you don't want to also miss out on precious time with Good. On my search for the best way to schedule in more Bible study time, I came across Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood.

Being a mom usually means being busy. Really busy. Whether you’re zipping from your children’s piano lessons to their next ballgame or nursing a baby while comforting a toddler, life is brimming with activities. Yet one encounter can help shape every moment: time in the Word with Jesus. In Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood, you’ll learn how to nourish your own heart, mind, and soul with the wisdom you need to become the mother you long to be. As you spend time with God through this eleven-week Bible study, you’ll gain life-shaping insights to help you…

       * Understand and pursue your purpose as a mother

Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood is an eleven-week devotional Bible study. Every week a new topic is covered that's specifically suited for mothers. Some of the themes include, Fighting Against Anxiety and Worry, Ordering Your Home, and Entrusting Your Child to the Lord. Each weekly study is broken down into five days. The first four days of every week offer a simple study arrangement, while discussing practical subject matter that a mother could relate to. Each day also includes several passages from the Bible and questions to ponder. The fifth day of the week offers a heartfelt devotional reading that helps put all of the previous four days of discussion together. Melissa Krueger even shares her own experience as a mother throughout.

I really like how the book is set up with the Bible passages already included in each study. Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood is meant for the busy mother who may or may not always have the time to sit down to enjoy the Word of God. That's why everything is included right in the book. There's no need to flip back and forth in order to look for scripture or Bible passages. Even the busiest of mothers can grab a few minutes of study time with this book.

There's also a few additional resources in the back of the book that are quite helpful:

  • Mom's Verse to Memorize: Offers twelve helpful Bible verses (one for each month)

    • Twelve Topical Verses for Children: Offers twelve separate topics, suchs as Truthfulness and Joyfulness, along with a description of what they mean, antonyms, and an appropriate Bible verse to match.

      • A Group Study Guide: A separate study guide for those who prefer a group setting, rather than individual. This section offers icebreakers and extra participant questions.

As I aim to get closer and closer to God by reading his Word, I know that it will not only benefit me, but also my family, especially my son. I want to set the best example that I can for him. This includes showing him how important it is to live by the Word and include it in your daily life. I want him to grow strong in his faith as he gets older, so I know that I must demonstrate that I'm also strong in mine.

Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood is such a wonderful Bible study devotional, offering maternal insight and encouragement as we go about our day as mothers. I highly recommend this book to every mother out there, no matter what age your children are.
