Preserving Your Child's Memories with Baby Shoe Bronzing

Babies grow up so quickly! I remember the day my son was born like it was just yesterday. I am so proud of my little one and couldn't ask for more, but part of me can't help feel nostalgic. I know these feelings are completely normal and are only going to carry on as he continues to grow and become more and more independent.

Of course, I will always have wonderful memories of his milestones and other special moments throughout his life. Then there are other ways to preserve those special times such as baby books, photos, and videos. I am so sentimental, I'm actually still holding onto all of my son's infant clothes. I just cant bear to part with them and have been toying with the idea of one day having a blanket made with some of them.

Then there are his baby shoes! There's something extremely adorable about baby feet, and those little shoes they wear. I started thinking of ways to hold onto them and began remembering a big craze when I was growing up called bronzing. While baby shoe bronzing had been quite popular back in the day, I wasn't sure if it was something that is still done today. After a bit of research and to my own amazement, I discovered that baby shoe bronzing has been making a come back. Of course I was ecstatic to discover this, and even more excited when I was approached with a wonderful opportunity to have my son's shoes bronzed by American Bronzing Company, a business that has been in the baby shoe bronzing industry for over 80 years!

A Bit of History on American Bronzing:
Our story begins in 1934, when Violet Shinbach, the "mother of baby shoe bronzing," established a business that would soon become the American Bronzing Company, the largest and most-trusted baby shoe bronzing company in the world. Today, we uphold the same high quality standards that Grandma Vi put in place over 75 years ago. And we treat our customers like family. We're sure we would be making her proud. Here at American Bronzing, in our third generation of family leadership, we preserve the memory of our dear grandmother by continuing to help our customers preserve the memories of when their children were toddlers, taking their first uncertain tiny steps. For over 75 years, we have been trusted to preserve the memories and mementos of millions of families, having bronzed over 14,000,000 baby shoes. The memories of baby's first steps are some of the fondest to which a parent holds. We're here to help preserve those cherished memories for you.Your baby's first steps happen only once; let us help you preserve that precious memory forever

I never realized how entailed the whole bronzing process could be be. There are quite a few steps involved. Here's a very informative video on how they actually do it:

I was going to send in a pair of my son's cloth/corduroy loafers, but had learned that it's best to not use shoes made of a soft materials, because they may not hold always their shape very well during the plating process. Because of this, I decided to go ahead and send in a pair of his brown tennis shoes, which were always another favorite of mine.

The whole ordering process was really easy. You simply visit the company's website and chose through a variety of different options for preserving your child's baby shoes. Add your selection to the cart and pay. Once your order is complete, you can print a free postage paid shipping label to send in your child's shoes. The entire process takes anywhere from 6 to 14 weeks, depending on the type of product and finish that is ordered, but it's totally worth the wait.

Here's what my son's shoes look like after being bronzed. They even personalized them with his name and birth date (Edited out of my photos for privacy purposes):

As sentimental as I am, you can only guess that I shed a few small tears after seeing my son's newly bronzed shoes for the very first time. I cannot express how pleased I am with the results! American Bronzing Company did a beautiful job at turning his baby shoes into a precious keepsake that we can now display. If you have been considering ways to preserve your children's memories, I highly recommend getting their baby shoes bronzed.

In addition to baby shoe bronzing, American bronzing Company can bronze other mementos such as a pacifier or hat. If you're not a fan of bronze, you can opt for a pewter or porcelain finish, instead. There's also a way to turn your children's baby shoes into bookends or even a Christmas Tree ornament. Now that's pretty neat!
