Experience What Makes Each State Unique with the Discover Our America Subscription Box

When my husband was in the service, we had the opportunity to travel to many different states and even aboard. Getting to see all the different places and unique qualities of each one was a once in a lifetime experience. As many places as we've been to, there are still quite a few states that we have yet to see. Eventually, we do plan on getting back out there to do some more state to state traveling.

Whether you are waiting to make your rounds across the good ol USA or already have, wouldn't it be great to receive a little piece of each state delivered right to your door each month? If you said "yes" to that question, then I have good news for you–there is a way, and it's all wrapped up in a lovely subscription box called Discover Our America.

I'm totally digging subscription boxes these days! Each month you get a package filled with all kinds of goodies. The real fun is that everything is a big surprise until you open it. Plus, you end up trying products you never thought you would. I especially like the subscriptions that offer a truly unique experience like no other. That's why I'm happy to share the Discover Our America box. You see, each month subscribers receive a special state themed box that includes all kinds of special items that are signature to that one state.

What you'll actually receive in each Discover Our America box:

  • A collection of various food and snacks that represent the state of the month
  • An informational brochure that provides a little background on each product in the box.
  • A mini booklet that is filled with gorgeous photography and information that highlights the state of the month's unique history and culture.

With 50 states in the United States, just think of all the goodies you can get with this subscription!

This was the first time I've ever received a box from Discover Our America, so I was anxious to not only see what's inside, but which state I would get. I have a little secret, I was hoping to receive a state that I haven't already visited or lived in.

Without further ado, the state that I received was {drumroll please}...

(Gladys Knight's "Midnight Train to Georgia" just popped into my head)

Have I been to Georgia? Yes, if you count an airport layover in Atlanta or a quick drive-through to Florida. The truth is, I have never had the privilege of fully experiencing this gorgeous southern state or what it has to offer. Now I was going to get a little "taste" of it with my new subscription box.
The first thing I saw when I opened the box was the information card that read "Hello, Georgia's here." Then without really glancing at the contents, I started thinking of the items that could possibly be in this box. Three things immediately came to mind, sweet tea, peanuts, and something with peaches (I know that an actual fresh peach would have been far-fetched).

Here is what the box looked like when I received it:

My eyes veered to a package of Southern Breeze Sweet Tea Bags (sweet tea...check!): If there is one beverage I enjoy more than coffee, it's tea, especially nice cold sweet tea. I did find one teensy problem with this particular brand and that was the inclusion of sucralose. Oh no! You see I try to avoid artificial sweeteners at all costs. I do like the fact that each of these tea bags is already sweetened. I just wish that the sweetener was stevia or agave, instead. Even regular sugar would have been just fine. Needless to say I was pretty bummed about not being able to try this tea. Just the aroma from the box was enough to make my taste buds water.

Moving on...

Oh look! What do we have here, Georgia Grinders Peanut Butter (peanuts...check!): First of all I have to say, "cool name!" We use nut butters quite frequently around here, so I was happy to see this product included. Let me tell you, this is as authentic as peanut putter can get. There is no added sugar. In fact there are only two ingredients, peanuts and sea salt. The taste is just like eating slow roasted peanuts right out of the shell. I slathered some of this natural peanut butter on a toasted bagel and it was delicious!

Now from looking at the picture, below, you can see that my last guess (something with peaches) was missing:

Wait...wait...what is this I see?

Blackberry Patch Peach Cobbler Jam (peaches...check!): Now that is what I'm talking about! To be honest I don't think I have ever had peach jam up until this point. For breakfast, I spread this all-natural jam on a nice warm piece of whole grain toast. The taste is fruity, but not overly sweet. This is the kind of jam that would be perfect for making some thumbprint cookies. I'm also thinking a Georgia Grinders Peanut Butter and Blackberry Patch Peach Cobbler Jam sandwich would be quite tasty. After perusing Blackberry Patch's website, I noticed that they have an enormous collection of tasty looking natural jams and preserves, even pumpkin butter (my favorite!).

So what else was in my box?

"Georgia's Sauce" Vinegar BBQ Sauce: Of course! How could I have forgotten about southern style barbecues? We do a lot of cookouts here, especially in the summer months and this year is no exception. From juicy steaks to a rack of ribs, this all natural barbecue sauce is perfect for just about any type of grilled item. I also like that it doesn't contain any preservatives or high fructose corn syrup. The taste is very tangy, almost like a sweet and sour combination, perfect for those pulled pork sandwiches on our grilling menu.

Vidalia Onion Grits Bits: These little snack biscuits are a happy mix of Vidalia onion (straight from Vidalia, Georgia) and cheese grits. The serving size is only three, so be warned they are pretty addicting once you start eating them. Even though the package is small, looks can be deceiving. There's actually enough to share with the entire family and they are oh so good!

Wow! It seems like the folks over at Discover Our America really put a lot of care and thought into what they packed into my box, because the contents couldn't be any more perfect. The best part is, each one of these products is made specifically in Georgia, so you really are getting the whole  ambiance.

With all of the yummy edible treats included in my box, I forgot to mention one of the most important items, the Georgia booklet. If I was going to enjoy my treats from the South, I'd also like to catch up on a bit on the state's background. The booklet is chock full of great information. From geography to history to neat places to visit, it's all in there. As a mom who's leaning towards homeschooling, I'm thinking the Discover Our America box would make a great addition to our future geography and US history lessons. Plus, you get a little "taste" of culture.

Now I have to mention that the Discover Our America box should come with a disclaimer that warns future subscribers that they'll get the sudden urge to make a beeline to their nearest travel agent. After receiving this, I suddenly wanted to start planning a trip to Georgia. With places like Stone Monument Park and Jekyll Island who wouldn't want to go? Also, if I'm not mistaken, they do have one of the largest aquariums in America, which even houses a whale shark. For those who may not already know, we are extremely fond of animals, especially marine life. Even my son's room has a Nemo/Dory theme. I think this is something we'll be planning in the near future. Until then I have my Georgia subscription box to tide me over.

If you can't get out to travel, or even if you're just missing some of the previously traveled to destinations, the Discover Our America box is a great way to enjoy a little piece of each of our 50 States from the comforts of your own home. Each box is $39.95 per month with free shipping, and you may cancel at anytime. You can also individually order previously released boxes on their website. I have to say, this subscription box is pretty awesome and would absolutely make a wonderful gift for friends, family, and even yourself.
