Worry-Free Living: Trading Anxiety for Peace by Joyce Meyer {Book Review}

Everyday life has it's ups and downs, and when the later occurs, it's quite easy to become anxious or worried. As a Christian woman, I know that I am supposed to let go and let God–at the same time, I'm only human. To be honest, I was always one of those people who would constantly think about the "what ifs." I like to err on the side of caution with a lot of things.

In times when the mind might be racing with worries, it's nice to be able to pick up the Bible and turn to scripture in order to find peace in God's word. I've also been reading a really inspiring book by Joyce Meyer called Worry-Free Living: Trading Anxiety for Peace. This book offers a nice reminder that he is always a step ahead of us, so we should be bringing all of our cares to Him.

In this compact adaptation of Be Anxious for Nothing, #1 New York Times bestselling author Joyce Meyer shows readers how to rid themselves of worry and fear by drawing on the peace of God. Difficult times are part of living in this world. However, God has provided a way for us to enjoy peace as part daily life. We can choose either to allow ourselves to be burdened with worry and anxiety or to live in the peace and joy that God wants for our lives. Joyce Meyer shows how to rely on God's strength during difficult circumstances by revealing the nature of God's peace as found in Scripture. She explains how to trade anxiety for joy, develop a childlike attitude of faith, and give our worries to the Lord.

Joyce Meyer is one of the world's leading practical Bible teachers. A #1 New York Times bestselling author, her books have helped millions of people find hope and restoration. Through Joyce Meyer Ministries, she teaches on a number of topics with a particular focus on the mind, mouth, moods and attitudes. Her candid communication style allows her to share openly and practically about her experiences so others can apply what she has learned to their lives.

I have been following Joyce Meyer's ministries for about 20 years. I've attended her conferences in the past, read her books, and even watch her television program from time to time. I always enjoy what she has to say. She has a down to Earth frankness about her that's a real breath of fresh air. Perhaps it's the way she shares her own life experiences with her audience, both the good and the bad. She is not afraid to hold back and tell it like it is. At the same time she is a Godly woman who offers her spiritual insight on matters.

Worry-Free Living: Trading Anxiety for Peace offers a little lesson in letting go of your worries. The book, itself, is broken down into five separate sections with four to five chapters in each:

  1. You Can Choose Peace
  2. You Can Lean On the Lord
  3. You Can Rest in God
  4. You Can Trust God's Plan
  5. You Can Cast Your Care

Just repeating the title of each of these sections is giving me peace already. From the start of each chapter and throughout, readers will be reminded of God's love with various scripture verses from the Bible. Discussions include ways to discover inner peace by finding strength and allowing God to build our lives, knowing that He has a plan for each of us.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.– Isaiah 40:31

Like everyone, I have my good days when I'm walking on the clouds, everything seems to be going right. All the lights stay green (figuratively speaking). Then there are those moments when my world can get a little stirred up and things may not be going the way I had hoped for. I'm predominantly a positive person, but that doesn't mean I don't have my share of heartaches and worries. Joyce Meyer really puts things in perspective in her new book. I found it extremely inspirational and even heartwarming at times. Even though I know the Lord is right there looking after me and my family, it's nice to receive a friendly reminder from time to time from a brother or sister in Christ.
