Seize the Day: Living on Purpose and Making Every Day Count by Joyce Meyer

I'm such a huge fan of Joyce Meyer's work. She has a natural knack for offering practical wisdom when it comes to dealing with the many challenges that most us face in our daily lives. I have been blessed with an opportunity to check out her newest book and study guide, Seize the Day.

Today is no ordinary day. You may perform simple routines, feel uninspired, or lack the excitement of hope. But today could be the most important one of your life--depending on how you choose to spend it. Joyce Meyer, #1 New York Times bestselling author, encourages you not to waste another minute. There is something special, valuable waiting for you to discover in each day. And when you spend time with God daily, asking Him to help you find it, you'll unlock the wonderful purpose He has in store for you. When you commit to letting God direct you, instead of resting passively in your own disappointments, you'll be open to receive greater happiness and blessings than you ever thought possible. All you need is the right encouragement. With over four decades of experience helping others find fulfillment, Joyce shares key biblical insights and personal stories that will help you make the most of this moment and SEIZE THE DAY!

Joyce Meyer is one of the world's leading practical Bible teachers. A #1 New York Times bestselling author, her books have helped millions of people find hope and restoration. Through Joyce Meyer Ministries, she teaches on a number of topics with a particular focus on the mind, mouth, moods and attitudes. Her candid communication style allows her to share openly and practically about her experiences so others can apply what she has learned to their lives.

Seize the Day is another wonderful addition to my library of Joyce Meyer reads. She has a lot of helpful advice to share with her readers in this new book. Ms. Meyer starts off by discussing the "free will" that God has given us. In this section, she dives into how we can use that freedom to make the right decisions for our lives–by keeping in obedience with God and choosing to live each moment. She even offers advice on how to schedule and organize our lives in order to follow through with our plans. Being big on organizing and keeping schedules, myself, I totally agreed with her suggestions on this subject.

As the book goes further, she shares her wisdom on ways to avoid wasting our time and how we can stop seeing ourselves as a victim, even if we've been greatly wronged in the past. Being someone who has had her fair share of battles in life, she offers her own personal stories on how she overcame all those hardships.

The Seize the Day Study Guide is also pretty awesome since it follows each chapter in the book perfectly. There are questions that allow the reader to think about what they've just read in more detail. I found it to be quite the helpful tool to pair up with the actual book. Even though I soaked up what I read like a sponge, the study guide really allowed me to get an even better grasp on the points that Joyce was trying to get across.

One of my favorite sections of the book was chapter seven where she breaks down some of the typical emotions that tend to hinder our opportunity to live for the day and can even affect our walk with God. Some of the emotions include anger, unforgiveness, self-pity, guilt, fear, and anxiety. The section on fear and anxiety was especially an eye-opener. I'm always such a worrywart and this is something that I've asked God to help me with time and time again. The fact that worrying can hinder our chance to live in the moment makes total sense. Instead of wasting time stressing about the "what ifs" that tend to take over our day and even keep us from being as productive as we can be, we need to bring our cares to God and just put our total trust in Him.

Carpe Diem means "seize the day" in Latin. It's actually a phrase that I've used all my life. I've honestly always been the kind of person that aimed to make the most out of each moment. At the same time, everyday life and circumstances can sometime put a damper in that positive thought process. Joyce Meyer's Seize the Day offers helpful reminders as to why it's so important to live out of purpose and be determined to follow through with that. After all, we only have one life to live, so let's make it count!
