The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional

There's something special about reading God's word right before bed. Perhaps it's just the feeling of ending the day on a good note with a positive message from the Bible. How about a good devotional that offers a little extra encouragement? Those are always really nice, too. My son and I typically read together many times throughout the day, but getting in that extra bedtime story (or two, or three, or four) is such a nice snuggle time moment for us.

We just received a new book, The Bernstein Bears Bedtime Devotional and have been giving it a good read the last couple of nights. If you've been checking out my blog in the past year or even in the past week, I think you could probably guess we're big fans of The Berenstain Bears. A wholesome cartoon family that I grew up enjoying, can now be a part of my own child's life. Their books frequently put out special messages of values, virtues, and God's love.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional is perfect for little cubs settling down for a good night’s sleep. These 90 reflections on simple Christian truths such as God loves us, love one another, be courageous and kind, and much more are the peaceful way to end a busy day.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.

We're really enjoying The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional. It is a precious compact size book with a beautiful blue hardcover. Just looking at the exterior of the book is relaxing. Inside are 90 different devotions to help encourage little ones as they wind down for a restful night sleep. The very beginning includes a heartwarming goodnight prayer that children can recite.

The book is broken down in nine different sections with ten devotions in each one. The sections include:
  • God Loves You Very Much
  • Be Kind and Helpful to Others
  • Be Forgiving
  • God's Gifts and Blessings
  • Be Thankful
  • Be Courageous
  • Be a Good Friend
  • Have Faith
  • Be Joyful

Every devotion starts with a scripture verse from the Bible and is then followed by a reflection that highlights how much God's loves and cares for us. Each reflection is inspired by examples through the Bear Family. At the end of each devotional is a short and sweet prayer. Throughout the book are other devotions that also include an extra area called Carry On, Club! that offers children the chance to ponder what they've just read even further.

For instance, there's one devotion that covers why Sister Bear is so thankful for the unique talents that God has given her. It then goes on to discuss the reader's own special talents. This devotion also includes a Carry On, Cub! section that further highlights the gifts that God gives His children and how we can show our appreciation for them. At the end of the devotion is this prayer:

Sister's Prayer
You made me in a special way, so I can swing and laugh and play.

This book has instantly become a wonderful additional to our bedtime routine. If you have children in your life that are also a fan of that beloved Bear Family then I definitely recommend picking up The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional for them.
