Every Story Whispers His Name: The Jesus Storybook Bible {Gift Edition}

When you read the Bible prior to the birth of Jesus, even in the Old Testament, you'll find many hints of God's promise of a savior someday showing up. Over the past month, we've been reading a beautiful book by Sally Lloyd-Jones called The Jesus Bible Storybook, that helps show children how the good news of our coming savior was always there even in the very beginning.

The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the Story beneath all the stories in the Bible. From Noah to Moses to the great King David––every story points to Jesus. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle––the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the Story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle. A Bible like no other, The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God's great story of salvation––and at the center of their story too.

Sally Lloyd-Jones is a leading writer of inspirational books for children. She is the author of three bestselling children’s Bibles, including the Moonbeam Award winner and ALA notable The Jesus Storybook Bible, as well as Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing, winner of the ECPA Inspirational Book award. She has written many picture books for children, such as the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller How to Be a Baby: By Me, the Big Sister and Song of the Stars. Sally was born and raised in Africa, was schooled in England, and now lives in New York City.

The Jesus Storybook Bible has been a cherished children's book for the past decade. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of it's release, a brand new gift edition is now being offered. We were blessed with our own copy of this new keepsake edition, and I have to say that it's absolutely stunning inside and out. The exterior includes a light blue clothbound cover with gold lettering and embellishments. There is also a white ribbon bookmark sewn into the book, so children can keep their place when reading. The inside drawings done by Jago, are vibrant and fun, all while doing a nice job at bringing each Bible story to life. It's really worth mentioning that this is the kind of book that you'll definitely want to display out in the open and not hide away in a book case–it's just that beautiful!

The book is rather thick with about 351 pages. There are twenty-one stories included from the Old Testament and twenty-three from the New Testament. Each story is a few pages long and although there is a lot of text included, everything is told in an age-appropriate format to appeal to children of all ages. Even though the stories are paraphrased, they don't loose sight of the Biblical message being conveyed. While reading through the Old Testament stories, children begin to see how God had a plan to save His children by offering His own son.

While The Jesus Bible Storybook has been out for ten years now, this is actually the first time we've had the privilege of reading it, so I can't really compare it to previous editions. What I can say is that this new gift edition is a beautiful book and one that is a must in every child's library of Christian literature. At the end of the book there is also a heartwarming paraphrase of John 1:12-13 with a "To Be Continued" message. Of course, one of my favorite aspects of this book is that many of the stories include a comforting message of our salvation through God's son. What a wonderful feeling that Jesus is in everything, and has been since Creation!
