Covering the Fundamentals of the Christian Faith for Little Ones: Would You Like to Know? Collection

As a mother who follows Jesus Christ, my ultimate goal is to pass my faith on to my own son by teaching him the core message of the gospel. Of course, in making little disciples out of the youngest of children it's nice to start off easy by teaching them the basics. We recently acquired a new set of books from the Would You Like to Know? Collection. Each of the six books in this collection offer a foundation to begin teaching little ones some of the keys points of the Christian faith.

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.– Mark 10:13-16

In this new addition to the fantastic Would You Like to Know? series, six little books are featured in one boxed gift set. Each book offers a starting point for young children to explore some of the key points of their faith and gain a greater understanding of Christianity. Each title has accessible illustrations, an inscription page, and notes for parents. A wonderful gift for those getting to know the church.

Eira Reeves has been a children's author and illustrator for 30 years, with over 85 titles published, including educational activity books and Bible stories. She lives on the Isle of Wight.

Tim Dowley (Ph.D. in church history, University of Manchester) has been at the forefront of writing and editing for a new generation of resources on biblical studies and church history.

The Would Your Like to Know? Collection includes six different books:

  • Would You Like to Know About God?
  • Would You Like to Know How to Pray?
  • Would You Like to Know Jesus?
  • Would You Like to Know the Bible?
  • Would You Like to Know the Story of Christmas?
  • Would You Like to Know the Story of Easter?

All six books are set up like small flip books with a soft paper cover, perfect for small hands. The books are physically thin, but the messages included in each one are substantial. Short lines of text throughout the pages help keep the attention of younger children and make it much easier for those who are just beginning to read. The sweet illustrations by Eira Reeves are vibrant in color and show scenes from different Bible stories, as well as children in a variety of circumstances, learning about God, reading the Bible, praying, etc.

Each book discusses the who, what, why, when, and where of the main elements in learning about Christianity. Would You Like to Know about God provides a quick explanation of who God is and what He does for us, as well as the story of creation. Would You Like to Know the Bible? allows children to learn about the Bible, how it's set up (books, Testaments, etc.), and why it is such an important tool in our lives. Would You Life to Know About Jesus? teaches children who He is, why God sent Him, and how we can be closer to Him. There's even a prayer included for little ones to ask Jesus into their hearts. Praying is an important part of maintaining a relationship with the Lord. After learning about God and Jesus, Would Your Like to Know How to Pray? offers a nice little introduction for teaching kids how to talk to God.

Learning about God, Jesus, the Bible, and praying are integral components in the Christian faith. Of course it's also important for children to fully understand some of the Christian holiday's celebrated today, what they mean, and how they relate to important events in Biblical history. Would Your Like to Know the Story of Christmas? and Would Your Like to Know the Story of Easter? help complete this set by sharing the true meaning behind both of these holidays.

Each book in the Would You Like to Know? Collection offers simple, straightforward answers and explanations to the fundamentals of being a Christian. While you can individually purchase each book from this set, I personally feel that having the whole collection covers the essentials and would make an excellent starting point in teaching little ones how to be disciples for Jesus.
