The Berenstain Bears Bless Our Gramps and Gran {Children's Book Review}

Grandparents can hold a special place in our children's heart. My son is lucky to have multiple sets of grandparents, all of whom he loves very much. I like to keep my son's library stocked with books that focus on the special bond between a grandchild and his or her grandparents. Not only have we been recently blessed with a brand new book to add to his collection, but one from that beloved Bear Family, The Berenstain Bears.

It’s almost Grandparents Day and the Bear family has never celebrated this special day before. So working as a team, the cubs, with a little help from Mama and Papa, come up with a fun and creative way to show Gramps and Gran just how much they are loved and appreciated.

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

On a boring, rainy day Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear have nothing to do or look forward to. That all changes when Papa reminds them of an extra special day that is coming up, Grandparent's Day. This is the first time that the cubs have ever heard about Grandparent's Day, but they sure like the sound of it and want to join in on the celebration by doing something nice for their Gramps and Gran. As they brainstorm ideas with their parents, the cubs soon come up with a special gift that they hope their grandparent's will like.

The Berenstain Bears Bless Our Gramps and Gran is also part of the Living Lights series. Like all books in the series, the back of the book includes a final take away on the story that was just read, as well as a collection of questions that you and your child can discuss. In this book the questions relate to different ideas on how to celebrate Grandparent's Day.

This book is a cherished read for children that not only focuses on the love between a grandchild and their grandparents, but also opens up the opportunity for little ones to think about the unique qualities that make their grandmother and grandfather extra special to them.

Grandparents Day falls on September 10 this year, but The Berenstain Bears Bless Our Gramps and Gran actually releases in July, so there's plenty of time to grab it before the holiday. If you are looking for a themed children's book for the occasion, then this is one that I recommended. It makes the perfect read for children who are looking to hear more about what Grandparent's Day is all about, and will even give them ideas on ways in which they can honor their own grandparents.
