Little Jesus, Little Me by Doris Rikkers {Review}

I love reading books that help my son develop a personal connection with Jesus. Sometimes our much younger kids need a special way to help them understand who He really is. Our latest read by Doris Rikkers, Little Jesus, Little Me, is a precious board book that shows young children how Jesus was once a small child, just like them.

With sweet, cheerful artwork and delightful text, Little Jesus, Little Me reminds kids that Jesus was once a young child just like they are!

Doris Rikkers is a freelance writer and editor who has written many bestselling children’s books and Bibles. Although she loves the ocean, she lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, surrounded by her books, her flower gardens, and her family and friends.

While I found this book to be best suited for babies and really young toddlers, it is such a sweet story–that even children who are a bit older will enjoy it quite a bit. Although my son is no longer a baby (of course, he'll always be MY baby), he's so attentive to the story and even helps me read some of it. You see, each two-page spread offers something about Jesus on the left side, while the right side of the page continuously reads, "...just like me."

Jesus was a little baby
...just like me.

Jesus learned to walk one step at a time
...just like me.

Little Jesus, Little Me also includes adorable illustrations in soft, comforting colors that match precious images of both Jesus as a little one and other adorable children in the present day. The whole concept of this book is really neat–since we don't find a lot of stories about Jesus as a young child in the Bible, this is definitely a cute way to help younger kids better connect with Him on their level. We personally enjoyed this book, and I would definitely recommend it to parents with little ones. It would also make a precious gift for a new mother to read to her baby.
