Celebrating Positive Character and Communication with the Family Honor Plate

When I think of family traditions, I'm often taken back to my childhood and the ones that I had when I was young. Now that I'm a mother, I get to share some of those traditions with my own child, while also starting new ones. Having special moments where we can discuss our faith and build a strong family bond are especially important to me. Recently I was introduced to both the Family Honor Plate and Table Thyme Discussion Cards. Both of these products help build the type of memories and family bonding connections that I'm seeking for my own family.

Family Honor Plate creator, Michelle Weber, was seeking to inspire and empower parents by making tools to help bring the whole family together. The entire concept behind the Family Honor Plate is to celebrate those moments of positive choices and character development that we find in our own children. The ceramic plate is really beautiful right out of the box. It is all white with black lettering. The middle area displays the nine different fruits of the spirit that are found in Galatians–love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.– Galatians 5:22-23

Since this is about building a family tradition, there is a fun activity that everyone can get involved in. You see, we get to actually paint the plate. The set includes everything we need to complete our family project, including paint (eight colors), a palate, and three paintbrushes. The paintbrushes come in different sizes, which is nice, because there is a thin one, which is perfect for writing our names on the plate. The palate also has extra areas for fun color mixing. We are currently discussing what happens when we mix certain colors together, so this was a great teaching moment to show my son that we can make a new color by using two other colors.

Another really neat thing is that you can actually eat on the plate. The paint used in creating your family masterpiece is non-toxic, made in the USA, and actually food safe. The final step after painting the plate is to wait one hour and then actually bake it in the oven, this sets everything for a permanent finish. The whole idea is to surprise family members with a special celebration meal on it, after they've demonstrated an example of positive character. As you serve your child's special meal to congratulate them, you can both sit and discuss the outcome of their positive choices. What a fun way to really encourage them! Children may also want to present the Honor Plate to someone else, maybe even a parent, when they've also had a special moment in their life that's worth celebrating.

The Family Honor Plate is so precious and meaningful, I have personally decided that we are keeping ours as a special memento on display to remind us of ways we can encourage positive character development. I love that the set also conveniently comes with an actual plate stand for this very reason.

Another really neat product to keep a look out for is the Table Thyme Discussion Cards. This activity really helps bring the entire family together with fun discussion time. The cards come in a spiral bound book that has a fold out stand, almost like a desk calendar. Each card contains a fun ice breaker question that helps open doors to further discussion between family members. There are some cards with single questions, while others have questions that ask both the child and the parent at the same time. There are plenty of cards to go through, and once you reach the end you can flip the book around and start with a whole new set.

There are questions pertaining to everyday life situations, as well as moments to recollect fun memories from the past. The overall physical set up allows me to keep this standing up on the coffee table for fun family discussions. It's a great way to bond with everyone and possibly even learn something new. There are 365 cards included, so you could do one question a day or you could do a bunch in one sitting. It's all up to you!

What an unique and amazing collection of products to help create those extra special family moments. The Table Thyme Discussion Cards allow everyone to come together to communicate and engage in fun, meaningful conversation with each other. The Family Honor Plate initially serves as a fun family craft project that, in turn, becomes a special memento of the importance of keeping with the fruits of the spirit and developing positive character traits. I love that both products offer tools to teach values, confidence, and the importance of communication, all of which I strive to teach my own son while he's growing up.

This would make a beautiful gift for the holidays, and right now you can save 10-20% off if you purchase multiple products in the same order. To learn more about Family Honor Plate, be sure to also visit them on Twitter and Facebook
