Reconnecting with Jesus During the Busy Seasons of Our Lives

It has been turning out to be quite a busy year for my family and I–and it's only May! Even with all of the hustle and bustle, it is so important for me to spend quality time with the Lord. On the busier, more hectic days, getting in those quiet moments with Jesus can sometimes prove to be quite the challenge. The funny thing is, those are typically the days when I need Him the most!

Back in March, I had received a daily email devotion that struck a cord with me. Have you ever had a moment where you read something during a particular season in your life and instantly felt as though the Holy Spirit was speaking directly to you? Well, I was having one of those moments as I was reading this devotion. While the writer's circumstance was a bit different than mine, the overall theme touched up on the many distractions that occur in our daily lives, and how they can sometimes take us away from the important things that really matter. In my case, more one on one time with God.

The author of the devotion had also quoted Psalm 42:2:

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

How true! My soul was aching to be quenched with all of God's goodness. I just needed to make it a priority to carve out more time in my day to make it all happen. This was regardless of anything else that was going on in my life at that moment.

As I was finishing up that devotion, there was a quick mention, "If you want to begin making quality time with God a priority, you may enjoy Karen Ehman’s (also the author of the particular devotion that I was reading) newest women’s devotional, Settle My Soul: 100 Moments to Meet with Jesus. It must have been a sign from God, because just a couple of weeks prior, I had received an invitation to read an advanced copy of this very same book. Because my schedule was already so busy, I hadn't intended on jumping at the opportunity, but after reading the devotion that day and seeing that same book being mentioned, I could not accept it as a mere coincidence.

Settle My Soul: 100 Moments to Meet with Jesus is such a beautiful devotional both inside and out. It would make a wonderful gift for anyone who is looking for some extra peace and encouragement in their day-to-day life. The book has a gorgeous cloth hardcover exterior with a green ribbon bookmark for convenient place keeping. There are 100 different heartwarming devotionals included. Both authors take turns offering their support and wisdom as they encourage readers with ways to reconnect with God.

At the end of each devotion, there is a prayer to recite that ties in with everything. There are also several questions included, along with blank writing space, inviting readers to further reflect on what they have just read. This is a really nice inclusion that allows the devotional to also serve as a Bible study and journal. I personally enjoy how the authors use everyday practical situations and occurrences, which really helped me relate to what they were sharing. They then take these stories and connect them with Biblical truths.

There is a small notation on the front cover that says, "A Pressing Pause Devotional" and that is what this book really is. No matter how busy we are in our daily lives, it is vital to keep a thriving relationship with the Lord, even if it means pressing "pause" on the everyday to-dos. If we make it a priority to fix our eyes on Him, no matter how busy we are, we will be able to clearly hear what He wants for us. This devotional is a blessing to read and will help bring joy and clarity as readers are reminded of God's ultimate purpose for their lives.
